Description
(D. d. elata Habitus) Differs from the typical variety in the upper margin of the indusium being elongated, free from the leaf margin or not or the indusium only attached at the base and part of the sides (D. denticulata elata SEM1, D. denticulata elata SEM2, pictures of indusia).

Muna 1 coll., Central 11 coll., North 2 coll.); Moluccas (Buru 4 coll., Banda 2 coll., Babar 1 coll., Seram 8 coll., Halmaheira 1 coll., Ternate 1 coll., Morotai 1 coll., Aru Islands, Kobroor 1 coll., P. Baum 2 coll.); New Guinea (Irian Jaya, Lorentz River and Albatros bivak 2 coll., Balim River 1 coll., Papua New Guinea many coll.).
Pacific: Carolines (6 coll.); Bougainville (3 coll.); Solomon Islands (2 coll.); New Caledonia (1 coll.); Vanuatu (5 coll.); Fiji (9 coll.); Samoa (many coll.); Rarotonga (1 coll.); Society Islands (many coll.).

Ecology
Epiphytic, epilithic, or terrestrial on different kinds of soil, in forest and on exposed places. Altitude 0-1600 m.

Note
This variety could have its origin in hybridization of Davallia denticulata var. denticulata with Davallia embolostegia . Its has the same rhizome scales as D. denticulata var. denticulata. See also the note under D. embolostegia.
