Description
Rhizome without the scales 3-12 mm in diametre, white waxy under the scales (D. s. pyxidata Rhizome). Scales red-brown (black peltate base falling together with rest of scale), 5-8 mm long by 1 mm broad. Stipes 5-20 cm long. Lamina compound (D. s. pyxidata Habitus), tripinnate towards base and in the middle part, 15-30 cm long by 14-25 cm broad. Longest petiolules 3-10 mm long. Pinnae deltoid. Longest pinnae 6-17 cm long by 3.5-9 cm broad. Pinnules deltoid or narrowly ovate, longest 27-70 mm long by 12-40 mm broad. Ultimate leaflets linear oblong or narrowly ovate, lobed almost to the midrib or only shallowly lobed. Ultimate segments 5-20 mm long by 3-8 mm broad. Indusium 1-1.5 mm long by 0.6-1 mm broad.

Distribution
Australia: Queensland (rather common); New South Wales (common).

Ecology
Epilithic on various kinds of rock, often in cracks and crevices or epiphytic in dry sclerophyll forest to wet Eucalypt or rain forest.
